Flores keen for Rafael deal

Flores keen for Rafael deal

Van der Vaart: Wanted by Valencia

Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores admits he is desperate to sign Hamburg's Rafael van der Vaart.

Hamburg are unwilling to sell the Holland international midfielder, despite the player also expressing a desire to join Valencia.

Che have tabled a 14million euros (£9.5million) bid for Van der Vaart, who has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2010.

Flores is keen to take the former Ajax ace to Spain but Hamburg will not budge as they bid to hang onto him.

"The signing of Van der Vaart would be very important because he is perfect for us," Flores told Las Provincias.

"This kid offers a lot of quality as he is technically very good."

Flores' contract

Meanwhile, Flores wants to extend his contract with Valencia.

Flores' deal runs out next summer but the 42-year-old is looking to stay at the Estadio Mestalla beyond this season.

"Without doubt, I am happy at this club and I desire for continuity in my project," he said.

Flores' agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has yet to begin negotiations with Valencia over a new deal.
